During the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Remediation of Area IV and the
Northern Buffer Zone of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory, DOE will hold two public hearings. Each public
hearing will be preceded by a 30-minute informal open house. During this session, the public will be able to
learn about the project and the NEPA analysis and speak informally to DOE representatives and subject matter experts.
Meetings will begin with introductory remarks and a 15-minute project overview. A formal public comment session
will begin immediately thereafter. The public is invited to provide oral comments during the formal hearing session;
the comments will be recorded by a court reporter. Commenters will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis,
and each commenter will be given up to three minutes to comment. Alternatively, oral comments also may be given
privately to a court reporter during the open house portion of the meeting. Oral comments recorded by the court
reporter or written comments provided during the comment period, will become part of the EIS Administrative Record
and be considered in the development of the Final EIS.
Written comments will be accepted at the meeting and throughout the public comment period, which ends on April 13,
2017; however, DOE will accept all comments relevant to the Draft EIS to the extent possible.
DOE will share the same information at each of the public hearings described below. The public is invited to attend either of the public hearings.
